Sunday Sunset, April 27, 2025 • 4:30pm-8:30pm • $50

We invite you to join the Los Gatos Birdwatcher team led by Lisa Myers for this special sunset walk. Each spring our local Santa Clara Valley Bird Alliance holds an important fundraiser known as the Spring Birdathon. To participate, you can form your own team or join a pre-arranged team. Lisa Myers will once again lead team “Los Gatos Birdwatcher.” Team participants are expected to donate and/ or fundraise at least $50 to participate on this team. Birders of all levels are welcome, even if this is your first birdathon. For new birders, it is a fabulous and fun way to see new birds. Lisa has created a new itinerary. The team will spend a Sunday sunset along the Calero Creek Trail open space looking for a variety of spring-arriving species. And after sunset, the team will hope to hear or see owls and poorwills. We will be walking throughout this birdathon on wellmaintained trails into the darkness. If you cannot join us, we welcome your support, as this is a fundraiser! We’ll have a SCVBA Spring Birdathon donation box located at the store through most of May. You are welcome to drop off your support donations there. Thank you!. Nature Presentation at The Terraces with Craige Edgerton

Presenting The Flora and Fauna of Mayyan Ooyakma Coyote Ridge

Tuesday, Mar. 27, 2025 • 7:00 pm–8:00 pm • Free

Author, and expert of Coyote Ridge, Craige Edgerton is a long-time volunteer docent in Santa Clara County volunteering for Green Foothills, Santa Clara Valley Bird Alliance, The Land Trust of Santa Clara County, Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful, Bay Area Older Adults, and Greenbelt Alliance, but since 1999 he has spent much of his volunteer time with the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority’s Mayyan Ooyakma Coyote Ridge between San Jose and Morgan Hill.

Craige has traveled around the world seeking outdoor adventure, including Nepal’s Annapurna Loop, the entire John Muir Trail, six backpack trips to the backcountry of Alaska, two self-guided safaris to South Africa, part of the Inca Trail into Machu Picchu, and many trips to Mexico, Honduras, and Belize and most recently Viet Nam.

Craige is the longest-continuously serving volunteer with Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority and has spent most of his time at the Mayyan Ooyakma Coyote Ridge between San Jose and Morgan Hill, which is sometimes referred to as the Galapagos Islands of Santa Clara County.  He has led hikes there since 2008 when he wrote the first docent manual for that incredible property.

Craige will give an overview of that property and the incredible flora and fauna found there.

Bird Song at Joseph Grant

Saturday, Mar. 22, 2025 • 8:30 am–Noon • $25

This bird walk takes place as the breeding season begins. We’ll be using our ears just as much as our eyes! Listening for birds is another skill set every birder can enhance. We will spend time concentrating on what we hear from chip notes to elaborate bird songs. How you can let bird songs help you to locate each species will also be reviewed. Carpooling will be an option or meet at Joseph Grant County Park.
